Under-Cover Thursdays [5]

Under-Cover Thursdays is a monthly feature that was inspired by One A Day Y.A.'s Under-Cover Sundays. "The idea was to share that extra-special touch publishers sometimes put into a book, under the dust jacket of a hard cover." The third Thursday of every month will be an Under-Cover Thursday, so mark your calendars!

This month we have. . .

Clockwork Princess Cover Reveal!!

The cover was revealed here after Simon & Schuster made us work for it. The tag #ClockworkPrincess had to be tweeted 30,000 times before the full cover was revealed, but with every tweet a small piece of the cover was unveiled. It was less than two hours between when Cassandra Clare blogged about how to reveal the cover, and the full cover reveal. Along the way #ClockworkPrincess was a #1 Worldwide trending topic on Twitter. Below is all of The Infernal Devices covers together.

I absolutely LOVE Clockwork Princess's cover, and I love them all together, too!

This is one of my favorite "special touches". First I fell in love with the cover, then when I bought the book and pulled the jacket off, I fell even harder. I think the crown is just so adorable!

I ♥ Trylle

I absolutely love this series by Amanda Hocking!!!! I first really discovered it when St. Martin's Griffin sent me an Advanced Reader's Copy of Switched. Before that the books were self-pubbed e-books, so they were on my to-read list, but pretty low on my want scale (b/c they were e-books, not b/c they were self-pubbed). I loved Switched, and my only disappointment was that, because I read an ARC, I had to wait longer before I could get Torn, which just came out today. I picked up Torn and am about 50 pages in, and so far I love it. I hope to finish it by the end of the day tomorrow, and then the wait for Ascend begins, which comes out April 24. A bonus is that each of the books come with an exclusive never-before-published Trylle short story. Also, aren't the covers just gorgeous!!

Description of Switched:
When Wendy Everly was six years old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. Eleven years later, Wendy discovers her mother might have been right.  She’s not the person she’s always believed herself to be, and her whole life begins to unravel—all because of Finn Holmes.

Finn is a mysterious guy who always seems to be watching her.  Every encounter leaves her deeply shaken…though it has more to do with her fierce attraction to him than she’d ever admit.  But it isn’t long before he reveals the truth:  Wendy is a changeling who was switched at birth—and he’s come to take her home.

Now Wendy’s about to journey to a magical world she never knew existed, one that’s both beautiful and frightening.  And where she must leave her old life behind to discover who she’s meant to become…

And if you want, you can read an excerpt of Switched on Amanda's website and Macmillan's website.

*The Amanda Hocking link goes to her website, all other links go to their respective Goodreads pages, with the exeptions of the excerpt links, which go to where the excerpts can be found.*

**Also, WOW! I don't I have included so many links in one post before, EVER! ANYWHERE!**

Book Covers

I have been contemplating buying a few books from the UK. My reason is because I like the covers better than their US counterparts. Is it weird that I want to buy books from another country because I like the cover better? I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but I already know that these books are going to be good, that's why I am even thinking about getting them from the UK. Below are the covers of the books I'm thinking of getting, with the US cover on the left, UK on the right.

While I like the US cover of Stolen Away, I think the UK is prettier. I like the colors better, and it seems more elegant. That might not be the right word, but it suits my tastes better than the US cover does.

I don't really like the US cover at all. To me, it seems kind of ugly, from the greenish color of the cover to the weird picture in the corner. On the other hand, the UK cover I find much more pleasant to look at. I like the simple pink, black, and white color scheme. I love the notebook look of it, and I love the font used for it, it's very pretty. Even the pictures don't seem that bad.

The US cover isn't that bad, but it seems a little kid-ish, whereas the UK cover seems more grown up. I think the font on the UK cover is cool, and I love the wing on that cover.

Like with the US cover of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, I don't like US cover of Haunting Violet very much. The only thing I like about it is the title font. The whole tone of the cover bothers me, and the way the girl looks I don't like. The UK cover, I think, looks much prettier. I love the color scheme, and the whole look of the cover. The girl in this cover looks very pretty and a little mysterious, which I love.
